Roaming with RomansRER-2013-EV-Roaming_with_Romans_Poster.jpg

- 14th and 21st September

Join us this September for our BRAND NEW 'Roaming with Romans' event, a guided electric bike tour around the beautiful Eskdale Valley, stopping at historic interest sites . A great way to experience the beautiful scenery and Roman heritage of the Western Lake District first hand. Escorted Guide, electric bike hire, train journey and light lunch are included.

Itinerary for the day - moderate fitness and wear appropriate clothing. Over 15 years only

This is a chance to join a guided cycle tour of spectacular Eskdale with a Roman theme.
We’ll be starting in the old Roman Port of Ravenglass and heading up the
valley, tracing the steps of the Roman Legionaries as they made their way up
towards Hardknott Fort. The day will start at 10am at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Station in Ravenglass. Here we will collect our fully charged electric bikes and we will then “glide” our
way along quiet country lanes, with a short section of main road, to the head of the valley, passing through the village of Eskdale Green. The views along the route are spectacular and the whole route will be full of historical and wildlife interest. We’ll finish our cycle ride at the terminus of the Eskdale and Ravenglass Railway at Dalegarth, where we’ll enjoy a well deserved lunch of soup and sandwiches. At this point we’ll catch the regular 1.50pm train which meanders down Eskdale, returning us to our starting point at Ravenglass. At Ravenglass, we’ll finish the afternoon with a short walk to visit the Roman Bath House and Roman Fort which form the most westerly point of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site. The event will be finished by 4pm.

Tickets are £40.00 and places are limited. To book call 01229 717171.
