Steam to the Hills with an LDNP Ranger - Book in Advance

Enjoy a guided walk with a National Park Ranger. Meet at Ravenglass Station, take the train from Ravenglass to The Green and walk back to the sea over Muncaster Fell. £12 adult £6 child tickets include train journey and guided walk. Pre booking is essential. Meet at Ravenglass Station at 10.30, train departs at 10.45 am. Volunteer led guided walk
Take the train to Eskdale Green and walk back to the sea over Muncaster Fell.
Meet at 10.30 to catch the 10.45 train.

Grade: Moderate
Length: 9.6 km, 5.9 miles, 4 hrs
Appropriate footwear essential
Walking equipment required
Bring Packed lunch
Dogs allowed

Photography Day

A unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and take snaps at various points along the line of the passing engines.
Your day starts bright and early in Ravenglass at 8.30 for a brief safety meeting before you get your first behind the scenes access - to the engine shed. Watch as our steam engines for the day are fired up and prepared.
Following this you will set out (on foot) from Ravenglass with 7 miles of stunning scenery ahead of you. Your guide will be able to give you a brief history to the Railway as well as pointing you in the direction of some of the best photo opportunities the line has to offer.
Upon reaching Dalegarth you can then catch the 3:50 train back to Ravenglass and finish your day around 4:30.

£40 per person must be booked in advance.
Limited to 15 participants on each day.

Please note this event must be booked in advance as tickets are limited. This is an outdoor event and requires an average level of fitness (you will be walking 7 miles on ballast.)
Please bring suitable clothing.
Lunch is not provided.
All participants must be aged 16 or over.

Dalegarth & Eskdale Ramble with two Rangers

A walk from Dalegarth Station with Graham Standring, the local National Park Ranger, and Andrew Porter, the local National Trust Estate Ranger, to look at the wildlife, landscapes, land management, and points of interest in the stunning Eskdale valley.

DATE/TIME: Sunday 7th September 2014. 11.20am start to fit in with Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway timetable – leave Ravenglass on the 10.30 departure to arrive at Dalegarth at 11.10. Ticket purchase required for railway, but discounted tickets will be available and walk is free.

MEETING/FINISH POINT: Either at Ravenglass station as detailed above, or Dalegarth station at 11.20. Grid Reference NY 174 007. Walk returns to Dalegarth station for return train.

LENGTH OF WALK: Approx 5 miles.

TIME: 3 hours to include stop for lunch (please bring packed lunch or buy sandwiches etc. at Ravenglass or Dalegarth stations).

GRADING: Easy. The walk will be along lanes and footpaths with a small amount of gentle climbing up the valley sides.

CLOTHING: Waterproofs and walking boots recommended.

Postman Pat® & Jess the Cat

The return of Postman Pat to the railway with of course his black and white cat! We have created a new event this year and created two Greendale Express trains exclusively for this event per day. Come and celebrate in the wake of Pat's film debut!

Our very own La’al Ratty will meet and greet you at your Ravenglass departure point and all children will receive a Postman Pat activity pack. Enjoy a seven mile journey up the valley and meet Postman Pat in person in our activity marquee at Dalegarth. There will be a Stu-Di-Doo magic show and a chance to have your photo taken with this famous character.

At the end of the day, post your cards in our special box to win a family day out at the railway.

Ticket price £15 per adult and £7.50 per child. Two departures on Saturday from Ravenglass 10.50 ( returns 13.10) and 14.10 (returns 16.30).

Ghost Train

Feeling brave? Well come and board our spectacularly spooky ghost train! Travel down the line in darkness and keep those eyes peeled for some of our fiendish friends who may try to say 'Hallo'! Try not to get spooked!

Travel around in the day, but make sure you reserve your special seat on the Ghost Train back down the valley. This event is very popular and must be booked in advance.
Ghost Train steams out of Dalegarth Hollow at 6pm.

Local author Gianna Hartwright will also be around during the day doing readings from her book The Befana Drama, a wonderful tail about a young witch!

Ticket price £15 adult and £7.50 child, ticket includes all day travel, a reserved seat on the Ghost Train, meet Ratty and collect your spooky sweet goody bag when or if you return!

Santa Express 2014

All aboard! Our favourite 'Santa Express' event returns to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway for 2014. Come and enjoy a magical journey on-board the 'Santa Express' to meet Father Christmas and explore his Dalegarth grotto.
