Our 100th Anniversary (of being a 15'' gauge Railway)

This August Bank Holiday Weekend (28th - 31st August) we celebrate our 100th year as a narrow gauge railway - in 1915, we were re-gauged from 3ft to the 15” line you see today.

BOOK IN ADVANCE ONLINE or DOWNLOAD OUR BOOKING FORM to guarantee your place on one of our special double headed trains. You will also receive memorabilia souvenirs and be entered into our prize draw to win a ride on the footplate (ticket also includes all day travel on normal scheduled service).

Over the course of the weekend we have lots going on including:

- We will be joined by visiting engines including: Count Louis (Evesham Vale Railway), Lydia (Perrygrove Railway), Soony (Perrygrove Railway), Britannia (Conwy Railway), Katie (Kirklees Light Railway), Red Gaunlet (Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway) Anne (a traction engine) and an appearance in steam by Synolda (a resident engine).
- A special timetable will be in place as Synolda and Count Louis will top and tail (one at the front, one at the back) and take a special journey from Ravenglass to Muncaster Mill.
- Our main stations will be adorned with vintage bunting and the cafes will be serving up some special anniversary menu creations throughout the weekend.
- A tour of the engineers shed and steam whistle collection.
- Eskdale Ranger Chris Berry will be leading guided walks including an historic circular walk to Beckfoot and a walk to Girder Bridge.
- The Preservation Society are hosting a model railway exhibition.
- On the Monday, Egremont Town Band will be joining us to get the celebrations into full swing.
- Other exciting developments include railway exhibitions, Peters Railway author, Ralph Bidder from Sleeper Crafts, Aperture bespoke souvenir photography, Dean Organ (Ravenglass) with the compulsory Organ Dog, children's activities, RSPB crafts and Morris Dance Group 'Two Headed Sheep' will be joining us on Sunday only.

There will be a full list of activities every day at both Ravenglass and Dalegarth Stations.

Please note: the top and tail Muncaster specials will be a short journey lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. The timings for these departures will be: 9.50, 11.40, 13.00, 13.40, 15.40 and 17.20.

Tuesday, 1st September 2015

Photography Day

Meet Ravenglass 8.30 am for bespoke behind the scenes tours, packed lunch included and guided seven mile walk up the line and single journey down from Dalegarth. Your day starts bright and early in Ravenglass at 8.30 for a brief safety meeting before you get your first behind the scenes access - to the engine shed. Watch as our steam engines for the day are fired up and prepared. Following this you will set out (on foot) from Ravenglass with 7 miles of stunning scenery ahead of you. Your guide will be able to give you a brief history of the Railway as well as pointing you in the direction of some of the best photo opportunities the line has to offer. Upon reaching Dalegarth you can then catch the 3:50 train back to Ravenglass and finish your day around 4:30.
£40 per person must be booked in advance.
Please note this event must be booked in advance as tickets are limited. This is an outdoor event and requires an average level of fitness (you will be walking 7 miles on ballast.)
Please bring suitable clothing.
Basic packed lunch is provided (sandwich, tray bake, piece of fruit) please advise of any dietary requirements
All participants must be aged 16 or over.

Fish Supper

Evening Diesel departure from Ravenglass at 6pm and a fish and chip supper at Fellbites Cafe, Dalegarth for Boot Station. Ticket price £10.50 includes fish supper at Dalegarth. Call Dalegarth to book on 019467 23192

Farmyard Express Trains featuring Shaun the Sheep (Book in Advance)

Farmyard Express Trains. 3rd & 4th October. We are delighted to be joined by children’s favourite Shaun the Sheep, from the popular TV series. It is the first time he has visited the railway so what mischief can we expect!
Meet our very own mascot, Ratty, at your departure point at Ravenglass and pick up your goodie bag, travel the seven mile journey to our mini farmyard at Dalegarth Station, spot the sheep en route and scarecrow trail. Activities at Dalegarth include magic show and balloon modelling with Stu Di Doo, meet the sheep, tractors, colouring activities and film show. Also present National Trust upland farming and Peters Railway

Ticket price £16 adult and £8 children ( 3-15), under 3 free. Ticket includes reserved seat on outward special carriage trains, all day travel and open return journey on scheduled services if you wish, goodie bag on arrival and meet Ratty, all activities and magic shows at Dalegarth, sheep balloon to take home and the opportunity to see Shaun the Sheep. You will also get a personal portrait keyring per family on the day of the event to take home as a souvenir.

Book in advance departure times from Ravenglass 10.10 (arrive 10.50) departs DG at 12.10 arrives Ravenglass at 12.50. Second departure 1.10 from Ravenglass arrives 1.50. Departs DG at 3.10 arrives RG at 3.50.

Halloween Ghost Train

Feeling brave? Travel the line in darkness and keep those eyes peeled for some of our fiendish friends! Travel on services all day, but make sure you reserve your special seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth. This event is very popular and must be booked in advance. Ticket includes all day travel and reserved seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth. The Ghost Train steams out of Dalegarth Hollow at 6pm (there is no return train to Dalegarth so please make sure you park in Ravenglass.

Activities at Dalegarth include facepainting and spooky arts & crafts.

Ticket price £15 adult and £7.50 child, ticket includes all day travel, a reserved seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth, meet Ratty and collect your spooky sweet goody bag when or if you return! You will also get a personal portrait keyring per family on the day of the event to take home as a souvenir.
Please note: For this event child tickets will be required for those aged 3-15.

Santa Express 2015

All aboard! Our favourite 'Santa Express' event returns to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway for 2015. Come and enjoy a magical journey on-board the 'Santa Express' to meet Father Christmas and explore his Dalegarth grotto.

Online booking is now open, if you'd rather print off a booking form, this will be available soon. We strongly recommend booking this event early to guarantee your preferred date and time of travel.
