All aboard! Our favourite 'Santa Express' event returns to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway for 2014. Come and enjoy a magical journey on-board the 'Santa Express' to meet Father Christmas and explore his Dalegarth grotto.

Online booking is now open or you can download the booking form below. We strongly recommend booking this event early to guarantee your preferred date and time of travel.

Teddies go FREE!

Children aged 15 and under travel free* with their teddy bear during this period. Complimentary HARIBO treats for our younger passengers, Easter line quiz and daily Best Bear competitions to win a rosette for your #BFF. Muncaster Castle will host a teddy bear picnic over the bank holiday weekend and younger guests can also enjoy free entry to the castle too as long as they take their #BFF. Keep an eye out too for Meet Grandad Trevor days at the railway all the way from CeeBeeBies land.

Photography Day

Meet Ravenglass 8.30 am for bespoke behind the scenes tours, packed lunch included and guided seven mile walk up the line and single journey down from Dalegarth. Your day starts bright and early in Ravenglass at 8.30 for a brief safety meeting before you get your first behind the scenes access - to the engine shed. Watch as our steam engines for the day are fired up and prepared. Following this you will set out (on foot) from Ravenglass with 7 miles of stunning scenery ahead of you. Your guide will be able to give you a brief history of the Railway as well as pointing you in the direction of some of the best photo opportunities the line has to offer. Upon reaching Dalegarth you can then catch the 3:50 train back to Ravenglass and finish your day around 4:30.
£40 per person must be booked in advance.
Please note this event must be booked in advance as tickets are limited. This is an outdoor event and requires an average level of fitness (you will be walking 7 miles on ballast.)
Please bring suitable clothing.
Basic packed lunch is provided (sandwich, tray bake, piece of fruit) please advise of any dietary requirements
All participants must be aged 16 or over.

Steam to the Hills with an LDNP Ranger - Book in Advance

Enjoy a guided walk with a National Park Ranger. Meet at Ravenglass Station, take the train from Ravenglass to The Green and walk back to the sea over Muncaster Fell. £12 adult £6 child tickets include train journey and guided walk. Pre booking is essential. Meet at Ravenglass Station at 10.30, train departs at 10.45 am. Volunteer led guided walk
Take the train to Eskdale Green and walk back to the sea over Muncaster Fell.
Meet at 10.30 to catch the 10.45 train.

Calling all superheroes, children under 15 years who join us over the weekend dressed as their favourite superhero travel free*. Whether you are a princess or a knight, a comic book character or maybe even a cowboy, we would love to share your pictures too so send them to us for our social media galleries, the best pictures win a prize. Our 100th Anniversary (of being a 15'' gauge Railway)

We celebrate our 100th year as a narrow gauge railway. In 1915, we were re-gauged from 3ft to the 15” line you see today. This is only part of the story so this weekend is all about sharing our full railway story with you and inviting you to join us in some special celebrations. We will be joined by visiting engines including Count Louis and Synolda, a special timetable will be in place as these engines will top and tail (one at the front, one at the back) and take a special journey from Ravenglass to Muncaster Mill which is bookable in advance as part of a day ticket at £20 adult and £10 children (5-15), this ticket includes all day travel and a seat on these special trains as part of your day out, a commemorative badge and edmundson ticket and entry into our exclusive prize draw to win a day on the footplate. Both main stations will be adorned with vintage bunting and the cafes will be serving up some special anniversary menu creations throughout the weekend. Bay Radio will be live on air on the Saturday from Ravenglass and Eskdale Ranger Chris Berry will be leading guided walks including an historic circular walk to Beckfoot then back along the old line to Boot and a walk to Girder Bridge to visit the old iron works then back along the stepping stones at St Catherines Church. Walks depart from Dalegarth Saturday – Monday, times TBC. There is no charge for the walk but if you make a small donation to our railway Museum, much appreciated.

UPDATE:
The top and tail Muncaster specials will be a short journey lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. The timings for these departures will be: 9.50, 11.40, 13.00, 13.40, 15.40 and 17.20

Farmyard Express Trains (Book in Advance)

Farmyard Express Trains. 3rd & 4th October. We are delighted to be joined by children’s favourite Shaun the Sheep, from the popular TV series. It is the first time he has visited the railway so what mischief can we expect!
Meet our very own mascot, Ratty, at your departure point at Ravenglass and pick up your goodie bag, travel the seven mile journey to our mini farmyard at Dalegarth Station and see our new arrival Shaun the Sheep. Activities at Dalegarth include magic show and balloon modelling, meet the sheep, colouring activities and film show.

Ticket price £16 adult and £8 children ( 3-15), under 3 free. Ticket includes reserved seat on outward special carriage trains, all day travel and open return journey on scheduled services if you wish, goodie bag on arrival and meet Ratty, all activities and magic shows at Dalegarth, sheep balloon to take home and the opportunity to see Shaun the Sheep. Book in advance departure times from Ravenglass 10.10 (arrive 10.50) departs DG at 12.10 arrives Ravenglass at 12.50. Second departure 1.10 from Ravenglass arrives 1.50. Departs DG at 3.10 arrives RG at 3.50.

Scheduled services and Shaun the Sheep personal appearances at intervals throughout the weekend too!

Halloween Ghost Train

Feeling brave? Well come and board our spectacularly spooky ghost train! Travel down the line in darkness and keep those eyes peeled for some of our fiendish friends who may try to say 'Hallo'! Try not to get spooked!

Travel around in the day, but make sure you reserve your special seat on the Ghost Train back down the valley. This event is very popular and must be booked in advance.
Ghost Train steams out of Dalegarth Hollow at 6pm. The Turntable Café will be open to purchase hot dogs and hot drinks when you return to Ravenglass Station if you wish.
(There is no return train to Dalegarth so please make sure you park in Ravenglass)

Local author Gianna Hartwright will also be around during the day doing readings from her book The Befana Drama, a wonderful tail about a young witch!

Ticket price £15 adult and £7.50 child, ticket includes all day travel, a reserved seat on the Ghost Train, meet Ratty and collect your spooky sweet goody bag when or if you return!
Please note: For this event child tickets will be required for those aged 3-15.
