Beatrix Potter Walks with National Trust

Take a walk with a National Trust Ranger to Penny Hill (working farm), the only farm Beatrix Potter owned in Eskdale. Find out about Beatrix Potter and the National Trust while walking alongside the beautiful River Esk. We will stop for lunch, so please bring a picnic with you and enjoy it in the farm garden.

Start / finish: Dalegarth station. Walk starts: 12.00. Distance: 3.4 miles / 5.5km (return) along rough countryside paths – muddy after wet weather. Duration: 3hrs (inc. lunch stop). Booking essential with numbers strictly limited: martin.clayton@nationaltrust.org.uk or 019467 23463.

Explore the Mills, Huts & Tarns of Eskdale

Explore the Mills, Huts & Tarns of Eskdale with The National Trust on 1st June & 1st July.
Take a walk of exploration with the National Trust Rangers, making a step back in time to discover some of the historically important sites that make Eskdale what it is today. There is also a visual treasure hunt for children along the route. A scenic mid-level walk from Dalegarth station up to the 'stone circles' (900ft) on Eskdale Fell via the Corn Mill at Boot village, returning to the station. Meet at Dalegarth Station at 11.30, walk takes approx. 2hrs. Free event but if travelling from Ravenglass, rail fare applies. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing.

Steam to the Hills with an LDNP Ranger

Take the 'Ratty' steam train to Eskdale Green and walk back to the sea over Muncaster Fell with a National Park Ranger. Meet at 10.15 am to catch the 10.25 am train to The Green. Train fare applies, pay on arrival, reserve your place in advance as booking advised, £5 adult for the guided walk and children free. Paint the Town Red Workington Festival

Some of the team will be at The Workington Festival with next door attraction Muncaster Castle. Ratty should be out and about too and we have lots of free kids passes to hand out for a trip on the railway this Summer!

The RSPB team will be on site this weekend at Dalegarth with some family activities for you to enjoy, make your own butterfly bar or nature mask plus find out more about the incredible work they do and how you can get involved. Activities free, donations welcome.

Young Engineers Day Out with Peters Railway

This is an exclusive day out on the Railway for all young engine enthusiasts! Go behind the scenes and find out how an engine works with the author of Peters Railway as your guide. Take a ride on a steam engine, learn all about how our engines work and then travel up to Dalegarth to be read a Peter’s Railway story. There will be 2 groups on both days at either 10am or 12:30pm.

Tickets are £15 adult, £7.50 child, ticket numbers are limited to 30 for each session and children must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult per 2 children maximum).Ticket holders will receive a ride all day ticket that will be valid all day so that you can travel to Dalegarth, and each child will receive a Peters Railway book that you can have signed by the author himself!

Tickets will be limited and are now available to book online. Not suitable for under 5 years.

Beatrix Potter’s Birthday Party, with special guest - Peter Rabbit

A very special 150th anniversary in 2016. To help celebrate we are hosting a Beatrix Potter interpretation exhibition at Dalegarth and hosting our own Railway Tea Party with special guest Peter Rabbit.
Joining us on the day we will have the National Trust with their 50 things to do activities and childrens artist Mark Bardsley in the marquee. Downstairs in the main café area there will be tea and cakes for sale to celebrate the anniversary of Beatrix Potter. Plus, Peter Rabbit will be out and about for meet and greets at intervals during the day!
This event is part of our normal service and there will be a small charge for activities.

Photography Days

The team is back to take you on a behind the scenes bespoke photography treat. Meet at 8.30 Ravenglass Station for a brief safety meeting, tour around the workshops, watch the engines being fired up for the day ahead, enjoy a cup of tea in the Turntable Café, pick up your packed lunch, before embarking on the seven mile journey up the line, to photograph passing engines en route. At Dalegarth enjoy some free time before heading back on the single line journey at approx 3.40 to your starting point at Ravenglass.Please wear suitable clothing. £45 per person. Please note this event must be booked in advance as tickets are limited. This is an outdoor event and requires an average level of fitness (you will be walking seven miles on ballast). Please bring suitable clothing. Basic packed lunch is provided (sandwich, tray bake, piece of fruit). Please advise of any dietary requirement. All participants must be aged 16 or over.

Peppa Pig at the Railway - SOLD OUT - only non reserved day railway ticket option available

Come and see Peppa Pig! 1st & 2nd October. We are sorry but the special event reserved tickets have sold out. There is an option for non reserved day tickets to visit the railway but other parts of the event will be chargeable and extras are not included.

Her first visit to the Railway and we are very excited as we say a warm Railway welcome to Peppa Pig! Peppa Pig will be appearing during story time sessions, led by a narrator, at intervals on each day. Book your train tickets and board the reserved seat trains to the activity marquee, where you can see Peppa – don’t forget your camera!

Halloween Ghost Trains

Back with more fiendish tricks than ever in 2016! Feeling brave? Travel the line in darkness and keep those eyes peeled for some of our fiendish friends! Travel on services all day, but make sure you reserve your special seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth. This event is very popular and must be booked in advance. Ticket includes all day travel and reserved seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth. The Ghost Train steams out of Dalegarth Hollow at 6pm (there is no return train to Dalegarth so please make sure you park in Ravenglass, and allow time to catch the train up the valley). Activities at Dalegarth include facepainting and spooky arts & crafts and GADS theatre.

Ticket price £16 adult and £8 child, ticket includes all day travel, a reserved seat on the Ghost Train from Dalegarth, meet Ratty and collect your spooky sweet goody bag when or if you return! Please note: For this event child tickets will be required for those aged 3-15. Online bookings are now open!
