A Sad Day at the Railway

We are saddened to hear the news that Martin Willey, one of the longest serving members of the railway operations team has suddenly passed away at the weekend. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Martin's family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his colleagues here at the railway, always.

Martin was for many years the permanent driver of Bonnie Dundee, whilst she isn't serviceable today she has been on display at Ravenglass all year so that new Ratty fans can climb aboard and imagine what it must be like to be on the footplate of our wonderful engines. More recently Martin was a vital part of our engineering team, maintaining the carriages on a day to day basis and he had a knowledge of every carriage like no other. He could tell you the order they were all meant to be in and the distinctive features of each one! He was a jack of all trades and could turn his hand to anything on the Railway when he was needed.
