Family friendly activities in the Lake District for autumn

For children, families and the young at heart sister attractions Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and Ullswater ‘Steamers’ have an exciting range of themed activities this autumn including the popular cartoon character event which sees the heroic pups from Paw Patrol coming to the Railway this October,  for Halloween scares the Ghost Trains promise to be truly terrifying this year or for a spooktastic magic show jump aboard the Ghostly Galleon at Ullswater ‘Steamers’. For steam themed festive fun with a chance to meet Santa, families can choose to from the enchanting Santa Express train experience or the Magic Cruise with Santa. Join in the fun as Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol return to the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The heroic pups will be making personal appearances at intervals on each day. Ticket includes all day travel on the Railway, meet & greet, entertainment at both Ravenglass & Dalegarth stations and a voucher to return to the Railway in the 2020 season.


Magic, monsters and mayhem onboard the Ghostly Galleon with magician Stu-Di-Doo. Your ticket includes a 90 minute cruise, magic show, your own monster balloon to take home and a goodie bag, plus face-painting, tattoos and a complimentary drink. Dogs not permitted.


Back for 2019 and spookier than ever, be prepared to scream on our truly terrifying Ghost Train! Travel the line in darkness and see if you can make it back to Ravenglass safely as you encounter lots of surprises on our haunted train tracks. The ticket includes a return train trip and of course lots of unexpected frights on the way back to Ravenglass.

Please note, this train is designed to scare and we recommend that younger children travel on our normal service trains instead. Strobe lighting will be used at this event. Not recommended for children under 10.


A festive treat and fun for all. Be entertained by Stu-Di-Doo’s fabulous Christmas magic show and meet Santa to hand over that all important letter and if you’ve been good, you never know you, may receive a gift. Your ticket includes a 90 minute cruise, magic show, Christmas balloon, a gift for the children, return voucher for the adults and complimentary drink with a mince pie. Dogs not permitted.

La’al Ratty’s Santa Express is back. Enjoy a magical train journey and keep your eyes peeled for Santa. At Dalegarth meet Santa in his grotto where children will receive their own gift. The ticket includes return train journey, gift for the children, 50% voucher for the 2020 season for adults, complimentary drink and a mince pie. There is the option to purchase a Christmas lunch at the station. Please note, dogs are not permitted at this event.
