4th May 2019 to 6th May 2019
Big Birthday Gala
Join us as we celebrate the birthdays of some of our engines! Our oldest engine, River Irt, is turning 125, Whillan Beck will be 90 and Perkins will also be turning 90. Katie, a sister engine to Muriel, left Ravenglass one hundred years ago in 1919 – last year its extensive restoration was completed after many years in progress. Guest of honour at the gala will be The Bug from the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, 25 years since its last visit to us in 1994.
Our diesel locomotives Perkins and Shelagh of Eskdale will be 90 and 50 this year, respectively, but are not expected to take any part in proceedings as they are both undergoing restoration.
A big bumper birthday bash will be taking place across the weekend with lots of mini events including short tours of Murthwaite Crushing Plant (book your tickets in advance), a photography evening, a celebration of Katie’s centenary of leaving the Railway (book your advance tickets) and the infamous Driver for a Fiver!
Plenty of trains will run during the weekend, including every combination of our ‘big five’ steam locomotives double-headed - a rare treat for visitors! Who can manage to travel behind them all?! Certain specific trains will only run on particular days, Click the Read More button below to view our timetable for the weekend (subject to change).
