There are many trails to explore so here are some hints on some of the best. Please note that bicycles must be pre-booked onto the train and cannot join or leave at intermediate stations. Bicycles are charged at £4.00 per single journey.
Each train has one carriage designed to carry bicycles. Cyclists, please note that it is not possible to board the train with your bike unless you have pre-booked. There is space for 4-6 bikes per train but wheelchairs take priority. Please call 01229 717171 to book bicycles and wheelchairs onto the train at least 24-hours before departure. Please note that bicycles cannot be boarded or leave at intermediate stations, this can only be done at Ravenglass and Dalegarth Stations.
The 8½-mile (14km) Eskdale Trail is a fully way-marked route taking cyclists from Dalegarth Station, through Eskdale away from cars, to the coast at Ravenglass. The terrain can be bumpy in places and we would recommend that this route is suitable for experienced cyclists. To join the trail, travel by train to Dalegarth Station with your bike and follow the way-markers from the station to return via the trail; bringing you back to the car park at Ravenglass.
There are three specially designed cycle route cards available to purchase from Dalegarth and Ravenglass, which detail numbered starting and finishing points to/from Dalegarth. If you are traveling on the train, don't forget to book your bike in first!
West Lakes Adventure and Shepards View in Drigg hire a selection of bikes to suit all ages. Please book in advance of your holiday.
Get outdoors and explore the beauty of the Western Lakes with an electric bicycle. There are eight designated electric bike charging points throughout the Western Lakes, including points at Ravenglass and Dalegarth Stations.
