Where Steam Meets Waterpower: The Eskdale Heritage Tour
Step back in time for a unique, immersive journey into Cumbria’s industrial past. Ravenglass Railway Museum has teamed up with the historic Eskdale Mill to bring you an exclusive, full-day heritage experience that celebrates the incredible forces of steam and water power.
Your adventure begins at the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Station, where you will get a private, behind-the-scenes look at our museum treasures. From there, you will board our iconic historic railway line for a breathtaking, 7-mile scenic journey through the Western Lake District fells, arriving at Dalegarth for Boot station.
Once there, our expert guides will lead you on an insightful heritage walk into the charming village of Boot. You will wander along sections of the original 3-foot gauge railway line that once served the old Boot station, uncovering the fascinating, hidden industries of the Eskdale valley.
The highlight of the walk is an exclusive tour of Eskdale Mill—the last fully intact water-powered corn mill in the Lake District National Park. Discover 500 years of rural history, explore interactive exhibitions, and feel the rumble of ancient wooden machinery before your guide accompanies you back to Dalegarth station for your return journey.
