New and improved facilities

Visitors returning to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway this season will notice several improvements designed to make this much-loved Lake District heritage railway even more enjoyable. As part of ongoing investment in the visitor experience, a number of areas across the railway have recently been refreshed, including Wakefield’s afternoon tea space and 1876 Dalegarth Station Café. These upgrades will enhance facilities for guests travelling between Ravenglass and Dalegarth, helping to make a day out on one of the Lake District’s most scenic narrow gauge railways even better.

New play area coming soon

We’re excited to be nearing completion of our brand-new outdoor play area at Dalegarth Station, creating an exciting space for younger visitors as part of a family day out in the Eskdale Valley.

The new play equipment has now been installed and the surfacing has been laid. Unfortunately, the recent spell of exceptionally warm weather has delayed the completion of the rubber mulch safety surface, which requires cooler conditions to cure properly before it can be safely opened.

We appreciate that the prolonged closure has been disappointing for many of our visitors, and we’d like to thank you for your patience while we complete the final stages of the project.

We’ll share further updates here as soon as we have a confirmed opening date. We can’t wait to welcome families back to enjoy the new play area very soon.

Our station cafés

1876 Ravenglass Station Café has recently received a refresh, along with a new menu featuring freshly made sandwiches, traybakes, cakes, snacks, hot sausage rolls, pies, and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

We’re delighted to share that the beautifully refurbished 1876 Dalegarth Station Café is now officially open, and it’s looking better than ever. The café offers the perfect spot to relax after a journey on La’al Ratty. Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee, a delicious lunch, or a sweet treat, you’ll find a warm welcome waiting.

Wakefield’s at Dalegarth Station

Our brand new afternoon tea space has opened on the upper floor of Dalegarth station, creating a wonderful setting to relax after your journey through Eskdale. This dedicated space is reserved for the First Class Afternoon Tea Experience. Guests can pre-book their afternoon tea online to secure a table, or enquire on the day of travel (subject to availability). It’s an ideal way to enhance your visit to one of the Lake District’s most unique railway attractions.
