Halloween Half Term Activities

Join us for spooktacular fun and children's themed activities in Halloween week! Our stations and cafés are transformed with ghoulish decorations, setting the scene for a frightfully fun adventure.

Here are some of our top tips of things to do or avoid at the railway this half-term!

Spooky Word Quiz
Keep your eyes peeled on our seven mile journey each way. Those naughty little goblins have been up and down the tracks to the annoyance of our operations manager and placed a new spooky word quiz for you to uncover. Pick up your sheet from the ticket offices, complete the word and we might give you a prize!

Double-Header Trains
Line up for the seasonal spectacle of ‘double-header trains’ featuring two heritage steam engines for the price of one! There's no better way to experience autumn colours than aboard a double-header steam train in Eskdale.

Times (Mon 27th – Thu 30th October):

  • 10.25: double-header to Irton Road only

  • 11.25: double-header full round-trip

  • 13.50: double-header full round-trip

Get the cameras at the ready!

Ravenglass Railway Museum
Ravenglass Railway Museum has a host of FREE interactive exhibits and children's activities this half-term. Step into the spooky carriage for Halloween story-time fun.

Drum roll please... the Museum is also taking part in the #HiddenWondersHunt run by Kids in Museums and Walkers Books. This is a fun, free, family activity inspired by ‘The Search for our Cosmic Neighbours’ by Chloe Savage.

Discover hidden wonders around the museum and complete a special drawing challenge. Complete the trail and receive a sticker! Plus, you could enter a national competition for the chance to win out-of-this-world prizes, including a signed Hidden Wonders book bundle and a Double National Art Pass.

Teddy Mountain Workshop
The Teddy Mountain workshop is back on 28th October at Dalegarth station — small charge applies but we promise you will make a ‘friend or sloth or korgi for life’!

Chris Vine 'Peter's Railway' Little Engineers' Day
29th and 30th October: “Little Engineers' Day” with Chris Vine and a special Halloween-themed storytelling event.

Our Young Engineers will meet author Chris Vine at Ravenglass station and experience a railway adventure of their own ‘behind the scenes’. Find out more below.
