Steam Railway Gala
Northern Rock’s Golden Jubilee Gala | 2–4 May 2026
Experience one of the best steam railway gala events in the Lake District as the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway hosts the Northern Rock Golden Jubilee Gala from Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th May 2026.
This three-day steam spectacular celebrates 50 years of Northern Rock, one of the railway’s flagship narrow-gauge steam locomotives. The gala will feature an intensive timetable, with frequent steam services and the chance to see Northern Rock operating alongside visiting and home fleet locomotives on the scenic La’al Ratty line.
What’s On?
- Two visiting locomotives from Whistlestop Valley have been confirmed for the Golden Jubilee Gala. Sian resplendent in her distinctive maroon livery, is no stranger to Ravenglass – having been a former resident and a visitor on a number of occasions. Designed by Ernest W. Twining and built by Guest Engineering & Maintenance Co Ltd for the Fairbourne Railway in 1963.
- Sian will be accompanied by sister locomotive Katie, built in 1954 for the Dudley Zoo Railway and a long-serving Fairbourne engine before moving to Whistlestop Valley. Recently overhauled, Katie last visited Ravenglass in 2015.
- Prepare for an action-packed timetable operating throughout the weekend, featuring shuttles and double-headed trains.
- Heritage Displays – Dive into the rich history of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway at the Ravenglass Railway Museum with a special exhibition commemorating the 150 year of carrying passengers.
