Our closed carriages allow visitors to enjoy the Western Lake District scenery whilst providing complete protection from the elements.
The closed carriages are separated into compartments for up to 4 and are perfect those wintry days out. The carriages have a sliding door that can be opened from both sides upon arrival at your destination.

Built by the engineering team at Ffestiniog Railway Company, Ruth is a beautiful Director Saloon and the newest addition to our fleet, which can be hired privately for special experiences on the railway. With comfortable padded seats inside for eight people, semi-open balcony seating and a roof for two on each end. The space can be split into two separate compartments or can be hired as a whole carriage for up to 12 people. This carriage is wheelchair accessible.
The carriage has been named in memory of the Honorable Mrs Ruth Adorian, daughter of Sir Wavell Wakefield, founder of the current railway company that helped save the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway back in 1960.
