Join us for a Railway Family Fun Weekend in the Lake District!
Join us for a weekend of family fun, steam and celebration on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September 2025, as we mark two incredible milestones – the nationwide Railway 200 festival and our own 150th anniversary. Enjoy a weekend packed with heritage, hands-on activities and entertainment for all ages, right here in the Western Lake District.
All-Day Steam Adventure
With your event ticket, you can enjoy all-day travel on our stunning seven-mile journey from Ravenglass to Dalegarth for Boot station. Even better, one child travels free with every full-paying adult – making it the perfect family day out. Tickets are available online in advance or from Ravenglass station on the day, subject to availability. Upgrade your seats from £4 single on the day to Joan Pullman or 1st class.

Family Activities Across the Weekend
There’s plenty to see, do and join in with, including:
- Steam 'Driver for a Donation' sessions hosted by Ravenglass Railway Museum.
- Family activities including art sessions, crafts, a colouring competition, balloon animals, Teddy Mountain workshop (small charge applies - Saturday only), Connect 4 and Hook-a-Duck.
- Railway 200 Heritage Trail – explore fascinating stories from the 19th century to the present day.
- Photo opportunities with our Ratty mascot and friends (£1 suggested donation to local charity No Rainbows without Rain).
- Storybook Character Tea Party with special guest appearances (charge applies). Details coming soon.
- Special guests including Sellafield Police Dogs and Barnhill Donkeys Retreat (with more to be confirmed).
- Colouring Competition – kids can download a themed train template in advance or pick one up on-site. Judging takes place on Sunday at 4pm with fantastic prizes including a Family 150th Anniversary Pass and family tickets for our Halloween events.
- Fancy Dress Fun – come dressed up and join in the celebrations!
